A Chicago Alderman is seeking information on vandals who torched a statue of Abraham Lincoln on the south side of town.

Ald. Raymond Lopez posted a photo on Facebook of the charred remains of the statue:

“What an absolute disgraceful act of vandalism,” Lopez wrote. “This bust of Abraham Lincoln, erected by Phil Bloomquist on August 31, 1926, was damaged & burned.”

“Near 69th & Wolcott, if anyone has any information regarding this act, please contact the police or my office immediately,” he posted.

In addition to being charred, the statue appeared to have had the nose knocked off and portions missing on the left side.

Earlier this week, vandals spray painted the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Fox News reported “F*ck law” was painted on a marble pillar Tuesday:

According to Fox:

The National Park Service said it was working to remove the graffiti after it was discovered at about 4:30 a.m., FOX 5 DC reported

The graffiti, which was done in red spray paint on a column, appears to say “F*** law.”

Silver spray paint was also found on a Smithsonian wayfinding sign on Constitution Avenue, according to the park service.

The monument preservation crew started cleaning up the tagged areas with a “gel-type architectural paint stripper safe for use on historic stone,” and will continue to use the treatment until the graffiti is completely gone.
