Hillary Clinton’s campaign ignored battleground states such as Wisconsin and Michigan until it was too late, and now her advisors are claiming money Russian agents are alleged to have spent on Facebook “may have tilted the election” in those states.

John Podesta, the bitter former campaign chairman, appeared on CBS “Face the Nation” today and said activities by Russians may have defeated Hillary.

“We focused on the places we thought were in contest and at the end of the day, we fell short in those states and I think this active measures effort by the Russians could have tilted the election in Donald Trump’s favor,” Podesta asserted.

While announcing indictments against Russian individuals and companies, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein went out of his way to point out, “There is no allegation in the indictment that the charged conduct altered the outcome of the 2016 election.”

It’s convenient to blame a nefarious foreign entity for Hillary’s campaign incompetence.

Politico reports:

Michigan operatives relay stories like one about an older woman in Flint who showed up at a Clinton campaign office, asking for a lawn sign and offering to canvass, being told these were not “scientifically” significant ways of increasing the vote, and leaving, never to return. A crew of building trade workers showed up at another office looking to canvass, but, confused after being told there was no literature to hand out like in most campaigns, also left and never looked back.

“There’s this illusion that the Clinton campaign had a ground game. The deal is that the Clinton campaign could have had a ground game,” said a former Obama operative in Michigan. “They had people in the states who were willing to do stuff. But they didn’t provide people anything to do until GOTV.”

Or perhaps CNN’s John King said it better.

During a round table discussion with DC reporters last year, host John King dismissed her excuses by saying, “You don’t understand: The Russians cloaked Wisconsin,” referring to Clinton’s ignoring the battleground state until it was too late.

“So she couldn’t find it on a map to get there and campaign there,” he added.
