The campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders may have found a rare bit of unity –and it may come at the expense of the future of DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Appearing on CNN this morning, Clinton strategist Joel Benenson declined to side with Wasserman Schultz and said it would be up to the nominee of the party to choose who the next leader would be.

“What normally happens when a nominee becomes the nominee officially, that person picks the chair of the Democratic National Committee.

“That’s what happened in 2008 when President Obama, we’ll see what happens then,” Benenson said.

When asked by Alisyn Camerota if he thought Wasserman Schultz has become “ineffective,” Benenson punted — and again refused to side with her.

“This is not up to me,” he said, “it’s not my role to decide if Debbie Wasserman Schultz is or isn’t effective or not…”

Sanders, meanwhile, has vowed to get rid of Wasserman Schultz and is going so far as to endorse her primary opponent for Congress.

“Well, clearly, I favor her opponent,” Sanders said Sunday. “His views are much closer to mine than as to Wasserman Schultz’s.”
