An illegal immigrant was arrested by Kansas City, Missouri police Tuesday after he allegedly carjacked a 91-year-old woman at gunpoint before shoving her from the moving vehicle.

The woman driver, who was in her 60s, was at the pharmacy to help her 91-year-old passenger pick up prescription medicine, and was ordered out of the car at gunpoint. After a brief struggle, the man commandeered the vehicle with the elderly woman still inside, according to the news site.

“The 91-year-old was still sitting in the passenger seat when the individual got in the car and started to take off,” KCPD spokesman Darin Snapp said. “They had a short exchange of conversation. She said, ‘Are you stealing my car?’ He said ‘Yes.’ That’s when he forces her out of the passenger’s door, pushes her out. The vehicle is still moving when she is thrown out.”

The woman injured her back and hip, but was not seriously injured. Police put out a bulletin about the incident and officers located the vehicle shortly after. A brief car chase ensued and the armed man ditched the car and tried to flee on foot but was unsuccessful.

Police arrested him and charged the man with eluding police and armed carjacking, WDAF reports.

“Police say they’re still trying to positively identify the suspect, who’s believed to be an illegal immigrant,” according to the news site.

The incident marks at least the third carjacking committed by an illegal immigrant this year so far this year.

Mexican national Dario Carranza-Covarrubias, 29, was indicted by a grand jury in Morris County Delaware this spring on charges of carjacking, eluding police, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.

Police contend Carranza-Covarrubias used a razor knife to commandeer a Lincoln Town Car that was being used as a taxi. The previously deported immigrant was intoxicated as he ignored police demands to stop the vehicle, which he crashed before attempting to run away from officers, the Daily Record reports.

Carranza-Covarrubias allegedly attempted to fight off arresting officers but was eventually apprehended and jailed on a $250,000 bail, which a superior court judge refused to lower because of his prior deportation, according to the news site.

A few weeks before that incident, in Jersey City, New Jersey, police arrested 23-year-old Edwin Fuentes as he drove a stolen Acura SUV down the road “while the victim was on the vehicle holding on the rear trunk lid,” according to the criminal complaint cited by NJ.com.

The illegal immigrant from El Salvador was arrested and jailed on a $150,000 bail and now faces up to 30 years in prison, according to the news site.
