Democrats really don’t want to have a serious conversation about the socialist Green New Deal.

On Wednesday, the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives was supposed to hold a debate in the Financial Services Committee on the Green New Deal.

However, things heated up quickly when Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters became angered over Republican Rep. Sean Duffy trying to introduce an amendment to open up debate on the legislation.

Waters abhorrently rejected any dissent to the Green New Deal and said Duffy was “not serious” about having a debate despite the fact that he literally was trying to do just that.

As noted by The Daily Caller, Duffy’s amendment stated that the budget should furnish funds “to provide all people with affordable, safe, and adequate housing that has been newly built or retroactively upgraded to achieve maximum energy efficiency, water efficiency, safety, affordability, comfort, and durability, using only clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources.”

Waters responded by saying Duffy’s request wasn’t “serious” because he only wanted to debate the issue.

“Is the gentle lady chairwoman saying that the Green New Deal is not serious?” Duffy shot back.

“I beg your pardon,” Waters replied, visibly angered that someone dare challenge her.

Duffy responded: “You said this is not serious. Are you saying that the Green New Deal is not serious? I just want to make sure so I can get a gauge on that.”

“You are not serious,” Waters continued to claim, to which Duffy again replied, “This is my amendment. Are you saying that my amendment isn’t serious?”

Waters said, “We need to look for real ways to make our homes more energy efficient and sustainable. This amendment does not reflect a thoughtful approach to the topic.”

The core of the socialist legislation is to require the U.S. to eliminate “pollution and greenhouse gas emissions” and meet “100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources” within 10 years.

The legislation calls for every single building in the United States to be “upgraded or replaced.”

That means taxpayers will be stuck footing the bill for hundreds of millions of buildings in the country being upgraded or completely replaced.

Waters was apparently arguing that Congress and the federal government should take action to force all homeowners to make their homes more eco-friendly.

But more importantly, it seems as if every time someone does a study on the cost of the Green New deal, it gets worse each time.

One of the first studies found that the measure would cost an estimated $7 trillion. Another study found that it could be closer to $50 trillion, with a third study finding that it could actually be around $93 trillion.

Aside from the fact that it would likely bankrupt the entire country, it is so bad that even liberal Union leaders have predicted that the socialist overhaul would lead to catastrophic job losses in a variety of industries.

Having any debate on that, according to Waters’ logic, is “not serious.”
