The Obama administration spent more than $310 million in tax money to provide attorneys for unaccompanied illegal immigrant children, and all of it went to a single nonprofit with direct ties to Open Society Foundations.

The Immigration Reform Law Institute reports the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under Obama violated the Immigration and Nationality Act by awarding numerous contracts to the Vera Institute of Justice between 2015 and 2016 to provide “direct legal representation” for illegal immigrants.

According to the IRLI:

The contracts require Vera to provide “direct legal representation” to (unaccompanied alien children), recruit and train pro bono attorneys, and facilitate continued legal representation once a UAC is released to a sponsor – frequently an illegal alien. So far, the federal grants have paid for legal representation of UACs in removal proceedings and removal appeals throughout the nation.

The Immigration and Nationality Act, Section 292, states that aliens in removal proceedings “shyall have the privilege of being represented (at no expense to the Government).” Immigrant special interest groups, sometimes on behalf of unaccompanied minors, have tried since 1996 to challenge this section, claiming it violates aliens’ rights. Federal courts have always rejected these claims.

The Vera Institute of Justice is a nonprofit with a board of directors that once included Christopher Stone, who served as president of Open Society Foundations between 2012 and 2017, the same time frame the Obama administration awarded the contracts, IRLI reports.

The Open Society Foundations is the non-profit arm of billionaire hedge fund manager George Soros, who devotes his vast wealth to eradicating national sovereignty in favor of a new world order.

“To date, HHS has obligated over $232 million to Vera, with its network of legal services subcontractors, to provide these services, and HHS likely plans to obligate the $78 million remaining on the contracts,” IRLI reports.

OpenSecrets.org reports Open Society Foundations have contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to political candidates dating back to 1996, with all but $20,250 or 93 percent paid to Democrats. The society’s biggest donation year came in 2008, when Obama won his first term in office.

New York City Immigration and Customs Enforcement official Angel Melendez told President Trump earlier this year that nearly 41,000 unaccompanied alien minors were resettled across the United States in 2017.

“These aren’t the total amounts of UACs that were detained at the border,” he said. “These were the ones that were referred to be resettled within the United States.”

Melendez said federal officials identified about 21,881 of those between 13 and 17 years old with a high potential for gang recruitment.

“What I’m saying understanding MS-13, is that they’re looking at these 21,000 unaccompanied alien children that came into those states as potential recruits to continue to fill their ranks,” he said. “Another thing that we’ve been able to look at is, across certain operations that we’ve been able to manage throughout the last couple of years, 30 percent is a consistent number that we’ve seen of MS-13 members that have been arrested that came into this country as unaccompanied alien children.”

The Justice Department estimates there’s currently 10,000 MS-13 gang members in 40 states and the District of Columbia, which spokesman John Cronan blamed on lax immigration laws and porous borders, Breitbart reports.

“When the federal government pays for illegal alien minors to receive direct legal representation, it does more than flout the law,” IRLI Executive Director Dale Wilcox said. “These unauthorized payments have undoubtedly speeded-up UACs’ release from detention facilities to joint their families, relatives, or fellow gang members – or help them reconnect with and pay ‘pandillas,’ the criminal cartels that make enormous profits from controlling human trafficking over the southern border.

“My guess is that average voters would not be pleased to know that such vast amounts of their tax dollars are being spent in aid of this giant criminal enterprise,” he said.
