An Ohio State football player appeared to be wearing an ankle monitor during a college playoff game this past weekend.

OSU running back Master Teague III could be seen wearing a rather large black device around his ankle, affixed outside his sock:

No other players were wearing one and the device could arguably pose a safety risk to players attempting to tackle him during The Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.

Some used the moment to ridicule Ohio State:

TotalProSports.com reports:

Now, in all seriousness, it’s highly doubtful that the NCAA would allow a player to play in a CFP Bowl Game while they are under house arrest or any other sort of police supervision. So the likely story here (as some reddit users have pointed out) is that the object was in fact some sort of ankle wrap that had shifted out of place.

According to DieHardSport, Teague is expected to be Ohio State’s feature running back next season.

In 2018, Teague was an OSU “Scholar-Athlete.”

Teague’s team lost to Clemson in the playoff game. Clemson will now play for the national championship.
