A Florida family learned the hard way that their dog “Scarface” doesn’t do sweaters.

Police responded to the Tampa home of Brenda Guerrero around 2:30 p.m. Friday after the 52 year old went outside to put a sweater on Scarface and the pit bull mix attacked her, the Tampa Bay Times reports. pitbullattack

Guerrero’s husband, 46-year-old Ismael Guerrero, attempted to pull the dog off his wife but was also attacked. The couple’s son, Antoine Harris, 22, stabbed Scarface in the head and neck to break up the melee and was also attacked.

“The son tried to save them as well,” Tampa Police Spokesman Eddy Durkin said. “Grabbed the knife and stabbed the dog trying to help them out.”

All three family members eventually retreated to their home and called police, who tried unsuccessfully to get the animal under control before calling in reinforcements, Durkin told WTFS.

“Officers responding said the dog was pretty aggressive,” Durkin said. “When they Tased the dog the dog was still pulling away and was able to release the prongs from the Taser.”

According to WTFS:

When Animal Control and Tampa Police arrived to the home, the dog was shot with a tranquilizer gun. After the dog got into the house, where there were two children in the back room, TPD officers deployed a bean bag gun and Taser to subdue the dog. Eventually, the dog was captured by Animal Control by using a “catch pole.”

Both Brenda and Ismael Guerrero were rushed to the hospital and treated for injuries. Brenda Guerrero sustained a serious injury to her arm that is not life threatening, Fox 59 reports.

The couple’s children were not injured during the incident.

It’s currently unclear whether Scarface will be euthanized as a result of the attack.

Neighbors said they were surprised to hear about the attack, and expressed concern about kids in the neighborhood.

“My God, I had no idea it was that bad,” Joe Montgomery told Fox 59, adding that the family recently put up a “beware of dog” sign on a fence along the sidewalk. “We have kids here, kids there. If that dog gets out of the gate he could be dangerous to a kid.

“He’s never attacked nobody that I know of on this street,” Montgomery said.
