Has your mail delivery in the crapper — literally?

The U.S. Postal Service is investigating a Macomb Township, Michigan letter carrier after a batch of mail was discovered in a construction site port-a-potty.

“I noticed in the picture that this is actually a piece of mail, a pay check that my wife receives from her boss every couple of weeks,” affected resident Adam Hassig tells Fox 2. “And I was instantly furious by this.”

Over 700 pieces of mail were discovered in the mobile toilet by a construction worker building homes in Hassig’s neighborhood.

A USPS investigator says an employee is the suspected culprit.

“This particular employee was employed with the Postal Service since April of this year,” says Spc. Agent in Charge Jeff Arney, United States Postal Service. “And once approached and contacted by our office and interviewed, they resigned.”

The employee was not identified.

“The charges that they would be facing would be up to the U.S. Attorney’s Office to decide which charges would be applicable,” according to Arney. “Obviously centered around the theft and destruction and delay of US mail.”

Any mail that was salvagable was going through a detox process.

“We used our sister agency which has a Hazmat type training and equipment partnered with them to make sure that the mail was safe,” Arney says.
