Americans are tuned into Donald Trump’s first decisions as president.

Television ratings from Trump’s Tuesday night announcement of Judge Neil Gorsuch as his Supreme Court nominee had an audience of over 33 million viewers, the AP reports.

The sizeable audience may reflect how Trump handled Tuesday’s announcement, using his skills honed as a reality TV host on ‘The Apprentice’ to showcase Neil Gorsuch,” according to the news service.

That was as large an audience as one of the most anticipated moments of the 2016 election: Hillary Clinton’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Hollywood Reporter wrote in July:

Updated returns for Clinton’s speech, delivered during the 10 o’clock hour on nearly all television networks, offer a tally of 33.7 million viewers from the four broadcast networks and three cablers with coverage.

Trump’s audience was larger than Barack Obama’s final State of the Union address.

According to the AP, viewership for the Gorsuch announcement “edged that for President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union address last year, 31.3 million.”
