Socialist Congresswoman Ilhan Omar recently introduced a bill to create a federal jobs program that’s expected to cost hundreds of billions in tax dollars – one of several plans in “Ilhan’s Vision” to expand government control.

CNN’s Erin Burnett questioned Omar about the staggering cost of the “pilot program” introduced Monday alongside New Jersey Sen. Corey Booker. But the representative from Minnesota wasn’t interested in discussing the funding for the initiative, and Burnett didn’t bother to ferret out the facts.

“You’ve introduced a bill along with Senator Corey Booker, obviously who is running for the White House. You did this today. It would create a pilot program to guarantee jobs for anyone who wants one,” Burnett said.

“That’s ambitious, it would cost a lot of money,” she said. “What is the number one thing you would do to pay for that?”

Omar ignored the question entirely.

“Ya, I mean this is an idea that has a long legacy. It was proposed by Franklin Roosevelt. It was supported by Martin Luther King, Jr., uh, it’s going to allow, it’s a pilot project, a pilot program that is going to allow 15 communities within this country to create this program,” she said.

“And I think ultimately when these jobs are created and people are placed in these jobs it will pay for itself,” Omar claimed.

That was apparently enough for Burnett.

“Ok, well I think you for your time congresswoman, thanks,” she said.

“Thank you so much for having me,” Omar gushed.

The guaranteed government job bill is one element of “Ilhan’s Vision” outlined on her website, which also contains her plans for expanding government control over housing and health care, as well as a call to shift wealth from family businesses to the government and corporations.

The capitalist system doesn’t work, Omar argues, and more government can fix everything.

“The capitalist system has led to a concentration of wealth in a small handful of elites while working people suffer,” according to her vision statement. “We must stop the exploitation of working people to create a fair and just economy.”

“A federal jobs guarantee would provide meaningful work to anybody who wants it,” it reads, according to CNS News. “The program would: Provide a wage of at least $15 an hour, healthcare coverage, and benefits.”

Omar contends it’s bad that “big banks and for-profit developers” are making a living from selling homes, and she argues “we need to move towards publicly- and cooperatively-owned models of housing for all income-levels.”

Omar also vows to “fight for Medicare for All, a single-payer healthcare system that guarantees quality care for every American.”

The system would “require no out-of-pocket costs for patients for any services,” including abortion on demand, according to Ilhan’s Vision.

“It is horrifying that we continue to fight for the right to seek an abortion and access to reproductive freedom,” she wrote, adding that the U.S. government should “provide abortion coverage and care regardless of income or insurance.”

Ilhan’s Vision makes it clear the money to make it all happen would come from “a more progressive tax system by increasing income tax for the wealthiest Americans.”

Central to that is Omar’s plan to “strengthen the estate tax to limit the amount of inter-generational wealth that can be accumulated in the wealthiest families” – a position that penalizes family owned businesses and unfairly benefits major public corporations, CNS News reports.
