San Francisco spends millions on dollars each year on homeless residents, but its not clear what taxpayers have to show for it.

Earlier this year, (now former) Mayor Mark Farrell proposed a staggering $29 million increase to the city’s “Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing’s $250 million budget,” the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

In 2017, San Francisco’s homeless population was 7,499, according to SFist.

That means the city is spending $37,204.96 per resident annually.

It’s almost as if the Homelessness program is simply a redistribution of wealth program for the city’s unionized employees.

“Poop Patrol” members rake in $184,000 in pay and benefits each year, Business Insider reports.

As members of the city’s “Poop Patrol,” workers are entitled to $71,760 a year, plus an additional $112,918 in benefits, such as healthcare and retirement savings, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

In August, the city announced that five staffers from the San Francisco Department of Public Works would soon roam the Tenderloin neighborhood — where nearly half of the city’s homeless population is — in search of waste. The staffers will begin their efforts each afternoon equipped with a steam cleaner for sanitizing the streets.

The full budget for the initiative, $830,977, signifies a concerted effort to address the city’s mounting feces problem, which has resulted in more than 14,500 calls to 311, the city’s non-emergency-services line, since the beginning of the year, the Chronicle previously reported.

San Francisco was recently named the “poop capital” of America, RealtyHop reports.

“…the number of unique poop complaints every year from 2011 to 2018, and the number almost tripled, from 5,606 complaints in 2011 to 20,899 complaints in 2017, making San Francisco the doo-doo capital of the U.S.,” according to the site.

The city received 16,319 complaints by August 31st this year, “and it is quite possible that San Francisco will once again break the record if the amount of waste continues at its current pace,” according to the site.
