Shoppers made sure Walmart saw the error of its ways after the corporation ordered a greeter to stop saying, “Have a blessed day.”

WSB reports James Philips always met patrons with the greeting at the Blue Ridge, Georgia store until “someone complained.”

The company ordered him to stop saying it.

Thousands of people took to social media while others even protested outside Walmart’s headquarters to denounce the decision. Philips developed something of a cult following with hundreds of supporters traveling to the small town to meet him and say he had their support, according to ABC 13.

“I wasn’t trying to start a movement, but I am very appreciative that people thought enough of me to stand up for me this way,” Philips says.

“I want to just be one of the best greeters I know how to be.”

Walmart backed down and is now allowing Phillips to continue with his greeting.

The company even issued a statement, saying, “We greatly value our associates and appreciate his work for the company.  He is welcome to continue sharing his greeting with our customers.”

“They tell me, some of them do, when I tell them, ‘Have a blessed day,’ they can be upset or mad and it goes away when I tell them that, so that’s God working, not me,” Philips tells the news station.
