It sure seems like Democrats are petrified of Americans seeing what’s really in the Green New Deal.

While speaking with reporters on Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that the Senate will hold a formal vote on the “Green New Deal.”

“I’ve noted with great interest the Green New Deal. And we’re going to be voting on that in the Senate. Give everybody an opportunity to go on record and see how they feel about the Green New Deal,” McConnell said.

The legislation was introduced by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Ed Markey, D-MA, last Thursday, and its already a disaster.

McConnell’s obvious plan is to put Democrats, especially those running for president in 2020, on the record if they support the trillion-dollar socialist climate change plan.

Soon after his news conference, both Ocasio-Cortez and Markey took to Twitter to accuse McConnell of trying to “sabotage” the Green New Deal.

Ocasio-Cortez fired off several tweets and claimed Republicans aren’t doing anything to stop climate change, which is completely false given they are putting it to a vote.

Markey followed suit and responded on Twitter to a video clip of McConnell’s press conference.

“Don’t let Mitch McConnell fool you: this is nothing but an attempt to sabotage the movement we are building,” Markey wrote.

He added in a second tweet: “He wants to silence your voice so Republicans don’t have to explain why they are climate change deniers. McConnell wants this to be the end, this is just the beginning.”

Ocasio-Cortez, Markey, and Democrats have been demanding congressional action on climate change.

And less than a week after Ocasio-Cortez and Markey introduced the Green New Deal, McConnell grants their wish and says he will put their bill to a vote in the Senate.

But now the Democratic lawmakers are attacking McConnell for literally giving them exactly what they wanted — a full vote in the Senate to see if their bill can be passed.

Perhaps Democrats are lashing out because they know the deal has no chance of passing the Senate and they don’t want to be humiliated.

Maybe they are also upset because they don’t want Americans to learn how much the socialist measure will cost them.

The core of the Green New Deal is to require the U.S. to eliminate “pollution and greenhouse gas emissions” and meet “100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources” within 10 years.

The legislation calls for every single building in the United States to be “upgraded or replaced.”

That’s right, that means taxpayers will be stuck footing the bill for millions of buildings in the country being upgraded or completely replaced.

The socialist “Green New Deal” begins by claiming “human activity is the dominant cause of observed climate change over the past century.”

The measure then asserts that “a changing climate is causing sea levels to rise and an increase in wildfires, severe storms, droughts, and other extreme weather events that threaten human life.”

Ocasio-Cortez and Markey go on to argue that the United States will lose $500 billion in annual output by 2100 due to climate change.

If true, that’s a very tiny percentage compared to the estimated $7 trillion that the “Green New Deal” will cost taxpayers to implement.

The bill makes no mention of the 70 percent marginal income tax that Ocasio-Cortez has boasted about countless times, which is another radical policy that won’t sit well with many Americans.
