When Trump and Republican leaders are riding high, former Obama lackey Ben Rhodes goes low.

A picture of President Trump giving the thumbs up alongside Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Paul Ryan, and Vice President Mike Pence is enraging liberals online, and Rhodes and his colleagues from the Obama administration are no exception.

The White House initially posted the image to Instagram Wednesday with the caption: “President Donald J. Trump celebrates the passage of the Tax Cuts Act with Vice President Mike Pence, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.”

Dan Pfeiffer, a former senior adviser to Obama turned CNN contributor, captured a screen grab of the picture and posted it to his Twitter page with the snarky remark: “I hope this is the photo they use on the front page of the Times on the day Trump is indicted.”

Pfeiffer’s comment prompted a big reaction from both conservatives and liberals – more than 18,000 likes and 3,900 retweets – including one from his former colleague in the Obama administration, advisor Ben Rhodes.

Rhodes took it up a notch by actually wishing the men dead.

“And alongside the obits for Ryan, McConnell, and Pence,” Rhodes posted to Twitter.

Twitter users on both sides of the political aisle immediately called Rhodes out for the gutter politics.

“You might want to reconsider your rhetoric,” Rep. Steve Scalise responded.

He was shot this summer by a Bernie Sanders supporter during a Congressional baseball team practice.

“Seems to me you and your b.s. are CAUSE of violence in America! #antifa,” Anji USA Passion posted.

“Hoping people die?” Matt Marksberry added. “Tolerant progressive liberal I see.”

“Obama aide who ignored Assad’s crimes, ran interference for Hezbollah, and gave a pallet of cash to Iranian mullahs is openly fantasizing about the deaths of top GOP lawmakers,” Gene Everett wrote.

“Obits? Sounds like you are hoping for their deaths,” Carol Martin added. “That’s crossing the line, don’t you think?”

“Such a classy guy,” Barbara Warde posted. “And you wonder why so many absolutely loathe you and your ilk.”

Others pointed out Rhodes’ alleged ties to the Obama administration’s deal with Iran, and reported efforts to thwart a law enforcement crackdown on the terrorist organization Hezbollah for smuggling drugs into the United States, among other crimes.

“Little more than a decade ago you were a 9/11 commission gofer with a degree in fiction writing,” Debra Burlingame wrote. “Later you became a Hezbollah enabler who bragged about the ease of misleading the press. #powercorrupts”

“Ben Rhodes’s brother, David Rhodes, is the head of CBS News. Ben Rhodes is married to Ann Norris, senior foreign and defense advisor to Senator Barbara Boxer. Oh what a web we weave!” Brinaanne added.
