Former vice president Joe Biden is a self-professed expert on gun control, because he has a gun of his own at home.

What kind of gun isn’t exactly clear.

Biden tripped over himself during a campaign stop in Iowa on Tuesday when his attempt to make a point in favor of tightening government regulations didn’t pan out like he planned.

“Talk about moral depravity,” Biden lectured to a room of bobbing heads, “we can’t even get assault weapons out of our schools?

“The biggest concern kids have in terms of polling, age 7 to 20, is being shot in school in the United States of America!” he boomed, raising his voice. “That’s a stain on the soul of this country.”

The 77-year-old career politician then alleged he’s a champion of gun rights.

“I support the Second Amendment,” he said. “I own 20-gauge and 10, uh, uh, uh, excuse me, a 12-gauge shotgun.

“But my Lord! Any of you guys who need a clip that has 100 rounds in it, you shouldn’t be hunting, man. You’re endangering yourself,” Biden said. “You’re endangering yourself.”

It’s not the first time the former VP has gotten tongue-tied over firearm terminology.

During a September campaign stop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Biden laid out his plan for imposing government bans on “assault-type weapons” as well as any “magazines that can hold multiple bullets in them.”

“The idea that we don’t have elimination of assault-type weapons, magazines that can hold multiple bullets in them, it’s absolutely mindless,” he told C-SPAN in a clip posted online by RealClearPolitics. “It’s no violation of the Second Amendment. It’s just a bow to special interests of the gun manufacturers and the NRA.”

The vast majority of guns sold in America utilize “magazines that can hold multiple bullets in them.”

Two months later, Biden said Americans should not be allowed to possess “a magazine with 100 clips in it.”

“I believe in the Second Amendment, but nobody says you can have a round – a magazine with 100 clips in it!” Biden told folks in Concord, New Hampshire in November.

A second later he caught the mistake: “100 b, bullets in it,” he said.

Biden told a crowd of 250 in New York in August he wants to bring back an “assault weapons” ban he ushered in as a Senator during President Bill Clinton’s administration. That ban has since expired.

“I’m the only one in the United States that has ever, in fact, beat the NRA flat out, eliminating assault rifles,” he said, according to the Washington Examiner. “There is no rationale for us to have these assault weapons. Who needs a clip that can hold 100 rounds?”

Magazines feed rounds, while clips feed magazines.

Regardless, Biden isn’t against guns, just apparently the ones he doesn’t understand.

In 2013, Biden argued women should use a trusty double-barrel, 12-gauge shotgun to protect themselves at home, rather than an AR-15, based on misconceptions about the latter.

“You don’t need an AR-15,” he said, according to Defense Maven.

“It’s harder to aim, it’s harder to use and, in fact, you don’t need 30 round to protect yourself!” he said. “Buy a shotgun. Buy a shotgun.”

Last fall, Biden unveiled a gun control plan that would hold firearms manufacturers liable for crimes committed with weapons they produce, and force citizens to turn over “assault-type firearms” and “high-capacity magazines” to the government.

Those who refuse would be required to register the weapons, Breitbart News reports.
