Fox News reporter Griff Jenkins inadvertently thwarted a raft of illegal aliens attempting to cross the Rio Grande River this week during a visit to McAllen, Texas, the closest port of entry for a growing caravan marching toward the nation’s southern border.

Jenkins and his camera crew hid in the bushes along the river’s edge and eventually came across at least six illegals attempting to cross the Rio Grande in a raft.

Jenkins called out to the group, but a man paddling the raft quickly scampered back to the other side of the river.

“You can see they’ve come in and they have a family in a raft,” Jenkins said as he walked out of the bushes. “Excuse me, sir. We’re you trying to cross into America illegally?”

The apparent smuggler steering the raft shouted several comments in Spanish as he turned to head back to Mexico, where the group appeared to abandon their plans.

“So what we’re witnessing now is clearly a family that was being brought by that smuggler that was paddling in the raft,” Jenkins said. “This was an attempt to illegally cross and they’ve gone back over there. We seemed to have foiled this attempt.”

A short time later, Jenkins caught up with another group that successfully crossed the river and were taken into custody by Border Patrol.

“Can you tell me why you came illegally?” Jenkins asked one of the female immigrants.

“The situation of Honduras,” she said.

“What are the conditions there?” Jenkins pressed.

“You cannot have work in there because the criminals will always get your money,” the woman said.

Jenkins explained the visit was intended to highlight the growing numbers of illegal immigrants cross the border, a situation that’s expected to get exponentially worse when a caravan of thousands of illegal immigrants reaches the border in the coming weeks.

Jenkins noted that many of those attempting to cross are not women or families, and highlighted reports from Border Patrol arrests over the weekend involving gang members and wanted murderers.

The Trump-supporting duo Diamond and Silk also highlighted the nation’s porous borders in their recent documentary “Dummycrats,” which featured producer Kyle Olson demonstrating how easy it is to waltz into America without an invitation.

In some places, just two strands of barbed wire propped up with sticks serve as the only deterrent. In others, illegal immigrants can stroll across without any obstruction at all.

Jenkins’ experience along the Rio Grande also isn’t the first time reporters have witnessed illegal immigrants brazenly crossing in broad daylight. An MSNBC reporter who visited prototypes for President Trump’s proposed border wall received a real-world lesson on why the structure is desperately needed last October.

The reporter was chatting with a Border Patrol agent in the construction zone when the interview was interrupted by a group of “migrants” who quickly jumped the existing fence near San Diego, The American Mirror previously reported.

“It’s like, a small group of three people jumped over in the middle of the day,” the reporter told the border patrol agent he was interviewing. “There’s a girl there in a pink backpack. Can you explain to me what’s going on?”

The agent said it’s just another day at work fighting the never-ending battle to secure the nation’s southern border.

“This is the reality of every day border enforcement. The United States is still the draw, the ultimate draw, for people that have dire situations where they’re at,” the agent said.

“We’re going to continue to witness this. It plays out on a regular basis for us,” he said.
