An alert has been issued for Cleveland police officers to be aware of a potential ambush scenario.
Police are on the lookout for two situations, ABC 5 reports:
1.) Juveniles on dirt bikes pulling up to police cruisers and opening fire
2.) Suspects kicking police cruiser doors to initiate a chase, then ambushing officers
“The word is on the street that they’re going to kick a door on a policeman’s door and entice them to get into some kind of chase,” Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association President Steve Loomis tells Fox 8.
The “ambush alert” notice reads:
Threats, originating from The Harvard Wine & Grill, 14201 Harvard Ave., Cleveland, OH, imply that “younger males” were planning to “bait” marked zone cars into a pursuit by riding dirt bikes and four wheelers next to zone cars and kicking the doors. Once a pursuit has started, the dirt bike riders would lead the officers into an ambush, where several other armed males would be waiting to “overwhelm” the officers.
Another threat involves “younger males” rising dirt bike, next to zone cars, and shooting inside.
“We’re not going to chase them,” Loomis vows. “We’re not gonna be allowed to chase them and they’re (criminals) running the streets.”
