Border Patrol officials are again inviting Democrats to travel to the U.S.-Mexico border to witness the chaos caused by thousands of illegal immigrants flooding across each day.

Fox News spoke with Art del Cueto, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council, on Tuesday and he had a very important message for Democrats criticizing President Trump’s threat to shut down the border over the growing crisis.

“I haven’t seen any of them down here working with us. I haven’t seen any of them down here asking to speak to any of us,” del Cueto said. “I have an open invitation. They can come down and I’ll show them the issues (and) what’s happening at the border.”

More than 66,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended at the country’s southwest border with Mexico in February alone, and federal officials recently projected that number to reach 1 million illegal immigrants for fiscal year 2019. Those figures don’t include the countless others who simply cross the porous border undetected.

In Texas, government processing centers in McAllen and other places are filled to capacity and officials are reportedly dropping hundreds of migrants at over-capacity homeless shelters on a daily basis. Many of the illegal immigrants eventually end up at bus stations with a ticket and court date to return months in the future, The American Mirror reports.

President Trump declared the situation a national emergency to divert funding from the military to build a wall and offer other resources. More recently, he promised to cut aid from the U.S. to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador for failing to help curb the massive migrant caravans heading north, and suggested closing the border completely if things don’t improve.

Democrats, meanwhile, are focused on attacking President Trump with claims the immigration crisis doesn’t exist.

“Instead of building the wall or closing the border or cutting off aid to these central American countries, which is downright stupid, we should actually go in the other direction. We should choose compassion instead of cruelty,” 2020 presidential candidate Julian Castro said.

“I think this is the third time he’s threatened to shut down the border,” Texas Democrat Congressman Henry Cueller said. “That’s not the way to get cooperation with us.”

“The idea that the president of the United States … would ever suggest that we shut down our ports of entry, uh, is just moronic,” Texas Rep. Filemon Fela Jr. added.

Border Patrol officials argue politicians ignorant of the chaos caused by the massive surges of illegal immigrants is a major obstacle to finding a solution.

“This is the worst crisis the Border Patrol has ever faced in the history of the Border Patrol and we’re going back to 1924,” National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd told WMAL. “In my 21-year career as a Border Patrol agent, I’ve never seen it like this and I’ve worked in the busiest locations. . . . In the history of the Border Patrol it’s never been like this before. This is the worst it’s ever been and if we don’t do something it’s going to continue to get worse.”

Del Cueto elaborated further for Fox News.

“We are definitely at a crisis and it’s an emergency,” he said. “In the end, something needs to be done about the overflow of these individuals that are coming into the country.”

The Border Council would support closing the border, if it comes to that, he said.

“If there’s other countries that are facilitating this invasion, they need to step up to the plate and start doing something about it,” he said.

Democrats “haven’t even bothered to come and speak to the agents and the boots on the ground and ask what we need, what is it that they need out there,” del Cueto said. “We are seriously overrun.”
