A white man in a Black Lives Matter shirt stole the microphone from a black lawmaker at an event this week for openly gay South, Bend Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, alleging the show of support from the black community is a “farce.”

The Buttigieg campaign held a special event Wednesday evening at the South Bend’s Charles Martin Youth Center, where “prominent African-American South Bend leaders and elected officials” heaped praise on the 37-year-old mayor and backed his bid for president.

“I’m told by a campaign staffer that this is part of an effort to show national media and a national audience that the mayor has support among black residents in his city,” WSBT night beat reporter Max Lewis tweeted.

Whether it accomplished that goal remains unclear.

Shortly after the meeting got underway, Black Lives Matter protestors disrupted the black speakers, alleging they were imposters who don’t represent the most black folks in town.

Several of the agitators toted Black Lives Matter signs in the back of the Youth Center, but one man, a very angry white man, stepped up to commandeer the microphone and speak his peace.

Black councilwoman Sharon McBride was at the podium when the man started in from the audience.

“Black leaders don’t have three piece suits, leather jackets, and nice clothing. Where are these black leaders? Who terms these people as black leaders?” he interrupted as others shouted over him: “Let her talk!”

“People are having a crisis because of police violence,” the man continued as an elderly black woman grabbed his arm. “Who chose these people?”

The interruption sparked an uproar, with several leaping from their seats to attempt to wrangle the man as he walked around to the podium and snatched the microphone. One old lady in the audience took a swipe at the man with her cane but was blocked by others.

“Who chose these people as the black leaders?” the man repeated, strutting behind a table as McBride and the elderly black women scrambled behind him. “Who organized this?

“We have a police crisis in this town. Why are we talking about Pete Buttigieg?”

Eventually, the women and another man wrestle the microphone away from protestor, though he didn’t give up quietly.

“What kind of nonsense is this?” he screamed. “What kind of nonsense is this? This is a farce!”

He kept it up as several men escorted him out.

“This. Is. A. Farce,” he yelled before breaking into a chant.

“This is a farce. This is a farce. This is a farce,” he repeated with a clap, the BLM crew joining in. “This is a farce. This is a farce. This is a farce.”
