When CNN viewers rushed to their TV sets for an update on a New York City terrorist attack this morning, they instead learned that Donald Trump drinks a lot of Diet Coke every day, and that’s bad for his health.

As reporters for the Associated Press and other publications huddled with law enforcement shortly before 9 a.m. to learn about how suspected suicide bomber 27-year-old Akayed Ullah set off a pipe bomb on a subway platform during rush hour, CNN was attending to a two day old story from The New York Times about Trump’s Diet Coke consumption.

“U.S. News was talking about the bombing at 7:54. Nearly an hour later, CNN is whining about Donald Trump drinks Diet Cokes and watches too much TV instead of reporting about terrorism in New York City,” Media Research Center Vice President Dan Gainor told Fox News, adding that the situation doesn’t help CNN’s campaign to combat fake news with an apple analogy.

“CNN might tell you what it’s giving people is an apple,” Gainor said, “but if it is, it’s rotten.”

Several folks pointed out that CNN was aware of the terrorist attack, but consciously chose to go with the story of Trump’s diet cokes instead.

“8:45, more than an hour after the pipe-bomb story broke, CNN was busy with Trump’s diet Coke,” Yossi Gestetner posted to Twitter, along with a screen capture. “Note the ticker at the bottom right of ‘NYPD responding’”

Several others also mocked CNN for its clearly biased news priorities.

“Saw in @nytymes there was an explosion in NYC so I turned on @CNN to get a live-on-the-street report. But CNN was covering the fact that the NYT says @realDonaldTrump watches TV 4 hours a day. The NYT article came out 2 days ago. CNN is hopeless,” Ann Althouse wrote.

“@CNN we interrupt our story on the suicide bombing in NY subway to update the current tally on President Trump’s daily consumption of diet cokes!” Eddie B. joked. “We now return your to our regular broadcasting!”

Another wrote: “CNN was talking about the bombshell reporting that @realDonaldTrump drinks 12 Diet cokes and watches 4+ hours of TV news per day AFTER the news broke about the bombing in NYC. I kid you not!”

The New York Post reports Allah strapped a 5-inch metal pipe bomb to himself and wired it to a battery pack before he prematurely detonated the device at the Port Authority’s Manhattan transit hub during rush hour on Monday.

The device exploded and injured Ullah and three others before police took the suspect into custody, according to the news site.

Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Ullah “was supposedly setting the device off in the name of ISIS.”

“So, definitely a terrorist attack, definitely intended,” he said.
