Joe Biden thinks President Trump is impeaching himself because the 45th POTUS is worried about facing off against the career politician later this year.

A gaggle of reporters confronted Biden as he made his way into a recent campaign stop, and the elderly statesman couldn’t resist the opportunity to trash Trump.

“Let’s remember one thing,” Biden said, pointing at the camera with his signature shades, “why the man’s on trial, only the second guy, because he’s afraid to run against me.”

Biden ignored shouted questions as he pulled off his glasses and ducked inside.

The “Trump is chicken” narrative is nothing new for Biden, but alleging he’s staging his own impeachment to improve his chances in 2020 is a first.

Both Biden and his wife Jill have repeatedly alleged over the last year that Trump is terrified of facing off against the 77-year-old career politician.

“He’s afraid of just how badly I would beat him next November,” Biden told a rally in Reno in October, according to Politico.

Trump weighed in on Biden’s relentless goading last summer, but hasn’t devoted much energy to it since.

“I’d rather run against Biden than anybody, he’s the weakest mentally,” Trump told reporters in June. “I think Joe is the weakest up there. The other ones have much more energy.”

Trump said Biden’s relentless attacks are a sign his campaign is struggling, Real Clear Politics reports.

“When a man has to mention my name 76 times in his speech, that means he’s in trouble,” Trump said. “I have to tell you, he’s a different guy. He looks different than he used to, he acts different than he used to. He is even slower than he used to be, so I don’t know.

“But when me mentions my name that many times, I guess I should be complimented,” Trump said.

Both Biden and Trump are center stage in the Senate’s impeachment trial, which centers on allegations the president abused his power to encourage Ukraine to investigate corruption at Burisma Holdings.

Burisma Holdings paid Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, millions of dollars to sit on the company’s board during the time the years the former vice president oversaw relations with Ukraine for the Obama administration.

In 2018, Biden bragged during a Council on Foreign Relations meeting about threating to withhold $1 billion in U.S. aid to Ukraine unless officials there fired a prosecutor who was investigating corruption at Burisma.

The Ukrainians fired the prosecutor and received the money.

Last summer, Democrats allege Trump threatened to withhold U.S. aid to Ukraine unless officials there looked into the prosecutor’s termination. The Ukrainians didn’t investigate, but they still received the funds.

Trump is now impeached by House Democrats and on trial in the Senate, where some believe Biden should testify about the ordeal.

Biden told CBS News that’s not going to happen because it’s “all a game.”

“I have nothing to defend,” Biden said in video posted to Twitter. “This is all a game.

“Even if they bring me up, no one has said I did anything that was wrong. Period. What is there to defend?

“The reason he’s being impeached is he tried to get a government to smear me and they wouldn’t. Come on!”
