To listen to the initial reaction of Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson, the filmed shock attack on a white special needs resident by four suspected black females was just kids being kids.

Regarding what he saw in the attack streamed live on Facebook, John said, “Some of it is just stupidity. People just ranting about something they think might make a headline.”

He continued, “At this point we don’t have anything concrete to point to (to suspect it’s a hate crime, but we’ll keep investigating and let the facts guide us on how this concludes.”

“If you looked at the video, it was just stupidity,” he added.

Fox 32 reported:

Four people face felony criminal charges including hate crimes and kidnapping in the brutal beating and torturing of a mentally disabled man that was broadcasted on live on Facebook.

Jordan Hill,18, of Carpentersville; Tesfaye Cooper, 18, of Chicago; Brittany Covington, 18, of Chicago; and Tanishia Covington, 24, of Chicago; face felony criminal charges of aggravated kidnapping, hate crime; aggravated unlawful restraint; aggravated battery deadly weapon; robbery; PSMV and residential burglary.

Chicago police were made aware of the video Tuesday afternoon. The footage shows the suspects kicking, hitting and cutting the hair of the victim while he was gagged. Shouts of “F*** Trump!” and “F*** white people!” can be heard in the background.

Despite invoking politics and the victim’s race, Johnson isn’t sure yet whether the attack constitutes a “hate crime.”
