Special Counsel Robert Mueller mentioned Fusion GPS in his report to the Attorney General, but when asked about it during a congressional hearing today, he acted as though he had never heard of it.

“When discussing the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting,” Rep. Steve Chabot asked Mueller as he flipped through his notes, “you referenced, quote, ‘The firm that produced Steele reporting,’ unquote.

“The name of that firm was Fusion GPS, is that correct?” Chabot said.

“And you’re on page 103?” Mueller responded.

“103, that’s correct, volume 2,” Chabot said.

Amid a long pause as Mueller, mouth agape, read through the report, Chabot continued, “When you talk about the firm that produced the Steele reporting, the name of the firm that produced that was Fusion GPS, is that correct?”

“I’m not familiar, uh, uh, with, uh, that,” a visibly confused Mueller responded.

“It’s not a trick question, it was Fusion GPS,” Chabot said.

When Chabot asked a question about the Steele dossier, Mueller immediately answered, “This is outside my purview.”

When asked if Fusion GPS owner Glenn Simpson was mentioned in the Mueller Report, Mueller said it was “outside my purview and being handled by others.”

He said “outside my purview” again when asked about a Russian attorney working with Glenn Simpson and Fusion GPS.
