Congressman Emanuel Cleaver is making it sound as though Nancy Pelosi hasn’t been in office for the last 29 years.

Cleaver told MSNBC today that House Democrats “have no strategy and we have not plan,” despite Pelosi being in leadership for the last decade and will continue on for at least another two years.

Cleaver was attempting to argue that Pelosi is better than her challenger Tim Ryan because he would have been a new leader.

“If we had elected new leaders to come in, just think, they would have been elected yesterday, and we have had hardly any time to do anything except move into a new office,” he said.

But then Cleaver added, “At the present time, I’ve gotta say we have no strategy and we have no plan. But at least we have some proven leadership that can take us, you know, into what’s going to be a new era.”

The congressman contended all they would have been able to do is “hit the ceiling” if they had changed leaders “abruptly.”

“I do think it is time for us to bring in young people in leadership, in fact, if we don’t, I think it will spell the demise of the Democratic caucus, if we’re not already permanently in a state of smallness,” Cleaver said.

As for age, the 76-year-old Pelosi defeated 43-year-old challenger Ryan 134-62 on Wednesday.
