Democrats don’t think they’ll be able to defeat Donald Trump in 2020, so they have to take him out now.

Congressman Al Green, the leading sponsor of Articles of Impeachment, told MSNBC that Trump must be dealt with now, or Democrats will have to contend with him for another four years after his re-election.

After being told a new poll found 66 percent of Americans don’t support the Congress pursuing impeachment, and being asked if he thought impeachment would actually help Trump’s chances, Green responded, “I’m concerned that if we don’t impeach this president, he will get re-elected.

“If we don’t impeach him, he will say that he has been vindicated. He will say the Democrats had an overwhelming majority in the House and they didn’t take up impeachment,” Green said, claiming Democrats intend to confront a “constitutional crisis,” citing “refusing to comply with subpoenas” as his justification.

Speaking to reporters during a political event in Medford, Massachusetts last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seemed to backpedal on earlier statements that Trump is not “worth it.”

“There are some who think we should have been impeaching him a month— a year and a half ago. Two years ago— two years ago,” she said with the laugh.

Admitting impeachment is a “divisive and dividing path that you can take,” she added, “I do think the path of investigation and getting more information and you never know that one thing can lead to another. Impeachment is never off the table.”

That’s a very different statement than she made just a few weeks ago.

MSN reported in March:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in an interview that she opposes moving to impeach President Trump even though she believes he is “unfit” for office — her first definitive statement on the subject and one that stands to alienate members of her own Democratic Party who are intent on ousting the president.

“I’m not for impeachment,” she said in a March 6 interview conducted for a future issue of The Washington Post Magazine.

“This is news,” she added. “I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this, impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”

She saying now Democrats shouldn’t “start” there, but seems to now be open to the idea of ending up there.

A poll from March showed public support was at an all-time low for impeachment.

Just over one-third of those polled supported the effort to oust Trump from office, and the survey found a 12-point drop in support among Democrats to 68 percent.
