Are there cracks forming the the Democrats’ wall against a border wall?
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer was open to the idea of a border “barrier” on Fox News today.
“Would you yourself be open for wall funding?” host Neil Cavuto asked Hoyer.
“Look, I think physical barriers are part of the solution,” the Majority Leader said in an apparent nod to Trump’s demand for a wall or “steel slats” barrier.
“Do you share Nancy Pelosi’s view that a wall is immoral?” Cavuto quizzed.
“Uh,” Hoyer stammered, “look, I think it could— it depends on what a wall is used for, whether it’s moral or immoral.
“If it’s protecting people, it’s moral. If it’s imprisoning people, it may well be immoral, but that’s not the issue,” he said.
Trump’s intention with a border wall is to protect the American people, so by Hoyer’s logic, it’s moral.
The Majority Leader insisted Democrats are “for border security.”
There may be additional cracks forming in the Democrats’ wall.
Minnesota Democratic Congressman Collin Peterson is telling his Democratic colleagues to approve President Trump’s request for funding a wall on the southern border.
On KFGO’s “News & Views,” Peterson said approving Trump’s request could help bring an end to an “unnecessary” government shutdown.
“Give Trump the money” Peterson said. “I’d give him the whole thing…and put strings on it so you make sure he puts the wall where it needs to be. Why are we fighting over this? We’re going to build that wall anyway, at some time.”
“I don’t know if I want to give (Trump) a blank check, but I don’t want to preclude him from getting the money either, if he’s going to use the money correctly,” Peterson said, according to the news station.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has said there’s no way Trump would get money for a border wall.
“Everyone knew yesterday, long before the House vote, that the president’s wall lacked 60 votes in the Senate. It has proven to lack even 50 votes. It will never pass the Senate. Not today, not next week, not next year,” Schumer said in December.
