Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump has received a lot of scrutiny for donating to Democratic politicians in the past. But Republican primary voters may be curious to know why one of his chief rivals, Dr. Ben Carson, officially joined the Republican Party less than one year ago.

The American Mirror has obtained several public records that show Dr. Ben Carson, one of Trump’s chief rivals, did not affiliate with the Republican Party until he changed his voter registration on October 31, 2014.

Carson filed this “record update/change” on that date to change his party affiliation to “Republican Party of Florida” — less than six months before declaring his candidacy for the Republican nomination for president.

The office of Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections confirms, “Dr. Carson was previously registered with a minor political party: Independence Party of Florida (IDP).”

Other records show Carson was also registered as an independent in Maryland. According to the Baltimore County Board of Elections, despite registering to vote in that county in 2001, Carson only voted in the general elections of 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012 — and never in any primaries.

So does it matter that a leading contender for the Republican nomination for president officially became a Republican only a short time ago?

“You’ll never find a candidate that you agree with one hundred percent,” Texas tea party leader Katrina Pierson tells The American Mirror. “But, he should at least subscribe to your fundamental platform longer than six months prior to seeking to be your national leader.

“Six months prior to Dr. Carson’s announcement, his platform was void of top Republican primary issues including life, the second amendment, and God. It did, however, include sustainable development, social justice, and a 25% tax on all sporting events,” Pierson says, referring to the Independence Party of Florida.

The Carson campaign did not respond to an email seeking an explanation.

Just as I suspected all along. A vote for this guy is a vote for another Owebola… Guaranteed!

  • TheBruce

I’m a conservative/libertarian and I’ve been a registered Independent my entire adult life, although I typically vote the Republican ticket.

This is a non-story, written by a political hack implying that Ben Carson has some hidden motive here.

  • elcal

If they can pull up all of Carson’s voter registration records so easily how come we can’t see an authentic birth certificate or college transcript?
I could care less about his voter registration. It is the man, or woman (as in Carly) his/her background, character and views on the important topics that impress me.

    • Sherry

I agree. I am guessing this is fake. I always vote Republican, but to be honest, I don’t ever remember registering specifically to be Republican. I’ve always just had a small voter ID card. I’m from IN though, so it’s assumed that I am a Republican.

  • Dark Side of the Moon

    Carson is another manchurian!

    • nobody

They all are, no exception, otherwise they wouldn’t have been allowed there to begin with.

  • Will Killyou

I guess this is big news… LOL! I like Carson but Trump is the right one! Vote for TRUMP!

    • Sherry

This isn’t true. I have read almost all of Dr Carson’s books and he’s been Republican for at least 25 years. Trump was a lib in 2000, and he was rich. Carson grew up poor, so he has an excuse for being a liberal when he was younger.

  • Sherry

I just googled this area of Maryland (with exact address) and the homes are selling for $200,000. OK, there is no well in h*** the rich Dr lived or lives in a cheaper home than me. This is BS. Thanks for wasting my time!

  • Julie Sehler

What a weak unprofessional article. Everyone that has been following Dr. Carson’s campaign watched with great hope as he has approached each issue within his candidacy and this is no exception. We don’t care what party Dr. Carson is forced to use to run for office, WE JUST CARE THAT HE WINS !!

  • ColoradoMan

Who cares? He’s always been an intelligent conservative, which is more than you can say for some of the other Republican candidates.

  • Conservative AND Republican

Carson is just fine. Ben is honestly laying out his values and positions, and I haven’t heard anyone give a convincing example of where he has changed those in any fundamental way. I would take him in the number one or two position on the ticket anytime. I would take any of them, except Rand Paul, who is just plain odd, over any of the democrats. I think that we should start focusing on the negative aspects of the democrats before too long, or we will be in the 2012 position, where the GOP boo birds wrecked our chances of winning the race for the White House. Maybe the far right lunatic fringe ought to learn who Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Bernie Sanders are, before they have to start calling them “Mr President”.

  • Vetfromhell

Trump has been a Democrat for 30 years.

  • nobody

“primary issues including life, the second amendment, and God. ”
Are you sure these are the Republican main issues and not the IS main issues?

  • Jennifer

    And your Point IS????????????????????

  • CarbonaNotGlue

This shouldn’t be a surprise, it actually fits in the narrative that Black Americans today are default Democrats until they become educated and experienced. (Just like anyone born to a Catholic family will identify as a Catholic long after they may have parted from the church, and would likely forego the social trouble caused by being noisy about it unless the label was in the way of something practical like marriage. In Ben’s case, his inherited label was in the way of being able to honestly participate in the public arena. The easy way for him would have been to enter politics as a moderate Democrat.).

  • Go USA

    So what?
He can choose who he wants to vote or donate to. What he says and does are the ones that matter. If a hack like obama was elected, then everyone esle can be elected.

  • Bass Reeves

How long was Obama a Senator?

  • John1966

Conservatives are more in solidarity with the Republican party than the party is. That’s why it’s not strange that a conservative wouldn’t bother to join the party until it’s time to run for office. And by the way, why haven’t you raised this issue with Sanders, who signed up for the Dem party just in time to run? And one more thing. If this is all the dirt you have on Carson, you might as well quit now.

    • CarbonaNotGlue

  • lib_erator

I don’t think folks can see they are about to make the same mistake with Carson as they did with Obama. I have no guilt so will not be voting for Carson. I think this man may have an agenda if he has only been republican for a year. I have learned with politicians that you cannot trust them an inch. They all lie. Sooner or later. Trump 2016

  • NES73

Um, this is a plus. Republican voters mostly hate the establishment GOP right now. Carson just increased his political cred!

    • Holofernes

are cannibals because of this passage in their sacred Gospels:

      [John 6:
53] Jesus said “Very truly I tell you unless you eat the flesh of the Son
of Man and drink his blood you have no life in you. Those who eat my flesh and
drink my blood have eternal life and I will raise them up on the last day for
my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Those who eat my flesh and
drink my blood abide in me and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and
I live because of the Father so whoever eats me will live because of me. This
is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate
and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever.”

      I guess Christian
vegetarians don’t get eternal life, bummer.

  • Dirk Pitt

So what! Anyone who has watched Dr. Carson since he dissed Obama at the prayer breakfast 2 years ago knows that he was an Independent not a Republican. American Mirror, you are over two years late to the party. Good job you idiots.

  • blacknblue2

I have nothing wrong with Independent why do you? You really can’t run for President as an Indipendent and expect to get any traction. Katrina Pierson I ask you this – “what is the fundamental platform?” I ask because it is clear that many if not most of the Republicans in Washington today are barely (if at all) different from the Democrats.

  • Peter Kuck

    So what.

  • John Galt

At least he wasn’t a democrat.

  • Everyone should be a independent and vote for the candidate they think the best. I live in a state you do not have to declare what party you support.

  • Templar8

The article is presented as some important expose. It says that Dr. Carson”never” voted in any primaries. If the author cared about details, and so few do nowadays, he would have known that Maryland is a closed primary state. That means if you are not registered as a Repub or Dem you CANNOT vote in the primary. I perfectly understand why people don’t want to identify with either the stupid party (Repubs) or the evil party (Dems)
My advice to everyone is not to rely on the sloppy, lazy and biased media anymore than you would rely on a cat burglar to protect your jewels.

  • Walter Lawrence

Now someone remind me….how long has Sanders been a Democrat ? By the way, I thought voting records were supposed to be private… did they get their hands on these ? Could the fact that Maryland is run by Democrats have any bearing ?

  • pulse

So, what alot of conservatives belong to third parties…libertarians, consitutioanl,Independent…you call this journalisim

  • marylaforet

Yes, it was less than 1 year ago because like many Republicans, he questions their stupidity (and THE WAY OUR SYSTEM WORKS, this was the only way) Move on, you pick at nothing!!

  • ScottPM

Ben is more of a Republican than any RINO.

  • Patricia McCullough

There is not ONE good candidate in this bunch. Carson has serious problems with the truth, and T-Rump is a bloviating lunatic. But keep up drinking the kool aid. Take off your tinfoil hats and do RESEARCH!

  • Jimmy Moron

    Jeb! is a cocksucker

  • Morty Katz

So what? He’s smarter calmer and more uniting

  • VoodooEconomics

isnt Bernie Sanders a registered Socialist party member? I dont see Democrats poo-pooing over that.

  • This is not news. He posted his switch o=to Repub in November from his social sites.

  • dodger4754

SO WHAT? Reagan used to be a Democrat, then he wised up, too!

  • danteardenz

The Tea Party rebels without a clue are falling for the moron Carson….a crazed 7 th Day Adventist cult member, being pushed by Rothschild’s FOX, and William Kystals Neoconservatives.

The man is an absurdity with only sanctimony as his qualifications.
The ” Liberal media” is building the crazy up to knock down Trump, and give an opening to Bush 3, or Rubio….billionaire Sheldon Adelson men.

Hey Zio Christains ,and Koch Brothers Tea Party fans…Carson is nuts, and the system is only usiing him,and you ! Lol.

  • Gail O”No

Good more Democrats should wake up and become Republicans! Hooray!

  • Blackhawk553

so what? he listed himself as “Independent” prior to this, which, if you did a national census, I’m pretty sure you would find that easily 75% of people that traditionally vote GOP are not officially registered as republicans, now if he was listed as Democrat before, I may be a little concerned, but I would also count that he was smart enough to see the Dems for the brain-dead socialists that they are and change to something that at least on the surface is conservative based…..
Remember, Reagan was a democrat for most of his life before becoming a republican.

  • 1bestdog

ya’ll sceared cuz the Klan’s list is coming out?

  • SmellyGringo

We should be celebrating anyone leaving the Democrat party! Not bashing them for it.
Overall many Democrats are starting to see Democrat party has become the Socialist Party

  • Cathy

And your point is…..? He woke up–what else can we say?

  • Areminder

Well Bernie Sanders Has NEVER officially become a dem and he’s running for their party ticket.

  • Hon

The republicans and the DNC have coluded to sabotage Ben Carson’s candidacy.
The democrats are afraid of a black republican nominee, because some black americans will switch parties to vote for him. The republicans dont like him because he does not fit their mold and would not play nice with banksters and the corporate oligarchy.
