Florida Sen. Bill Nelson offered a bizarre assessment of the situation as he was standing in the twisted ruins of Panama City Beach:

“The weather is great here!”

With a pile of rubble behind him, Nelson told CNN a lot of people are trying to return to their homes to assess the damage, adding, “I had to come all the way on the interstate and then south, and there were cars lined up for miles wanting to get back.

“They want to get back, clean up. You can see, the weather is great here! That’s simply unusual for a hurricane, ’cause it’s usually raining and still blowing,” he said.

Hurricane Michael hit the Florida panhandle on Wednesday and is expected to impact the eastern seaboard over the coming days.
