Hillary Clinton said today that the rash of suspicious packages reportedly sent to politicians and at least one media outlet are why Americans need to elect Democrats in the midterm elections.

Appearing for congressional candidate Donna Shalala in Florida, Clinton linked a desired political outcome to the strange deliveries.

“Many of you and others across our country have asked after me and my family, and I’m very grateful for that,” Clinton said.

“We are fine, thanks to the men and women of the Secret Service who intercepted the package addressed to us long before it made its way to our home.

“Every day we are grateful for their service and commitment and obviously never more than today,” she continued.

“But it is a troubling time, it’s it?” she asked the audience of Democrats.

“And it’s a time of deep divisions and we have to do everything we can to bring our country together. We also have to elect candidates who will try to do the same,” she said.

On the developing situation, ABC News reports:

Explosive devices addressed to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were intercepted, and the Time Warner Center that is home to CNN in New York City was evacuated after a suspicious package was sent there, officials said Wednesday morning.

Investigators are working to determine whether the two devices addressed to Clinton and Obama are linked to a pipe bomb found earlier this week in the home mailbox of billionaire George Soros, near where the Clintons live in Chappaqua, New York, multiple law enforcement officials told ABC News.

The preliminary belief is that all three devices are of similar pipe-bomb-style construction.

Police in Sunrise, Florida, meanwhile tweeted Wednesday that they were investigating a suspicious package at a building that houses the office of Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schulz. The building was evacuated, police said.
