California Congresswoman Maxine Waters took some time during an event honoring the legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. to rant about President Trump’s tax returns.

“I’m not backing down from this fight,” Waters said at the 33rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Statewide Celebration in Missouri on Saturday.

“I’m not backing down from the fact that we have contributed so much to this democracy. We have sent our men and our women to war, who fought for this country and came home and didn’t have a place to live,” she said.

“They didn’t have a job, but they saluted the American flag, and they fought for this country. And you think I’m going to let you stand by someone who’s done nothing but steal, and lie, and undermine,” she said.

“We’re going to get your tax returns, we’re going to find out,” she warned Trump.

WUSA 9 reports Waters, as chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, has the power to subpoena Trump’s tax returns and bank records.

The move is undoubtedly an attempt to embarrass Trump, and may backfire the way it did in 2017.

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow thought she had a big scoop with two pages of Donald Trump’s 2005 tax return, but what she actually revealed is that several Democratic politicians pay a lower rate than Trump.

Trump paid $38 million, or 25%, of his 2005 $150 million income in taxes.

By comparison, former Vice President Joe Biden had a 2015 “effective tax rate of 23.3%,” the White House revealed in 2016.

While announcing President Obama’s 2015 returns, which found he also paid a lower rate than Trump — 18.7% — the White House said of Biden:

The Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden also released their 2015 federal income tax returns, as well as state income tax returns for both Delaware and Virginia. The Bidens filed joint federal and combined Delaware income tax returns. Dr. Biden filed a separate non-resident Virginia tax return. Together, they reported adjusted gross income of $392,233. The Bidens paid $91,546 in total federal tax for 2015, amounting to an effective tax rate of 23.3%. They also paid $13,729 in Delaware income tax and Dr. Biden paid $3,882 in Virginia income tax. The Bidens contributed $6,620 to charity in 2015.

Obama and Biden aren’t the only ones paying less of their fair share than Trump.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reported last year than spread-the-wealth-around socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders paid a 13.5% rate in 2014.

“Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, and his wife, Jane, had income of $205,271, according to the tax return. They made charitable contributions totaling $8,350,” according to the paper.
