Pete Buttigieg was asked to weigh in on the death of Kobe Bryant, and appeared to not know what sport the legendary athlete played.

While appearing on Fox News Sunday night, the Democrat candidate was asked “to make sense of” Bryant’s death in a helicopter crash today.

“It’s shocking and I think we’re all still in shock about what happened. And I think it’s a reminder that our lives are often touched by people we’ve never even meet,” Buttigieg said.

“And there are millions of people, not just in Los Angeles, but around the world, mourning because they were inspired by what he did on the field, what he meant off the field.

Basketball, of course, is played on a court, not a field.

Buttigieg said America is “united in mourning and sending our love and our thoughts and of course our prayers to the families” of the victims.

Bryant, his daughter and three others died in California.
