Rick Perry’s campaign manager, Jeff Miller, didn’t hold anything back when he saw a picture of former Marine Nathan Fletcher sitting next to President Obama while he was promoting the Iran nuclear deal.

“The president said the veterans know the consequences of war and how the deal can prevent violent conflict,” The San Diego Union-Tribune wrote of Fletcher’s appearance at the White House.

Fletcher posted this yesterday after his meeting with the president, according to Miller:

Nathan Fletcher

Miller promptly lit into him, writing on Facebook:

Nathan. When you determined you couldn’t win the mayors race as a republican, you switched to an independent and many of us were disgusted with you. Then when you decided to run as a democrat, I just no longer cared. But this…this is a disgrace. I have many friends who are democrats, republicans, liberals and conservatives. But I respect and appreciate them because of their convictions, regardless of whether or not I agree with them. You sir have none. You are a disgrace to those that have served in the military and to any democrat, republican or other who actually have a moral compass. You truly disgust me.

Fletcher served two terms in the California legislature as a Republican representing the San Diego area. After his term, he became an Independent and eventually ran for mayor of San Diego as a Democrat when disgraced Mayor Bob Filner resigned. Despite the endorsement of Gov. Jerry Brown, Fletcher finished third.

“Fletcher said he promised his wife he would step away from public life if he lost the race,” News 10 reported after his loss.

That is, until the president needed some military props to embrace the deal that will almost certainly lead to Iran obtaining nuclear weapons.

Fletcher served in Iraq in 2004.
