The protesters flooding the streets of Chicago have their sights set on Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Many activists blame Emanuel for the delayed release of dashcam video showing a police officer shooting teenager Laquan McDonald 16 times over a year ago. Some say it took so long to release the footage because the mayor feared it would impact his re-election bid.

Now, they want Emanuel’s head.

“Hey hey, ho ho, Rahm Emanuel has got to go,” protesters chanted in downtown Chicago.

Protesters have also been targeting the mayor on social media.

On Wednesday, #ResignRahm was trending on Twitter, NBC Chicago reports.

“I believe this is a moment that can build bridges of understanding rather than become a barrier of misunderstanding,” Emanuel said when the video was released Tuesday.

“I understand that people will be upset and want to protest when they see this video. But I would like to echo the comments of the McDonald family. They asked for calm and that those who choose to speak out do it peacefully.”

Protesters are also demanding the resignation of Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, a call he has refused to oblige.

“Since I got here, I’ve been talking about changing the culture of the Chicago Police Department in a positive fashion. There are some very good things about the Chicago Police Department that I found when I got here,” McCarthy said, according to Fox 40. “We’re building on those, and we’re trying to revamp anything that’s negative.”
