Protesters got a little carried away Tuesday as Republicans voted to lower taxes and fulfill one of President Trump’s primary campaign promises.

Politico reporter Anna Palmer tweeted about the action on the House floor.

“House protesters gone wild: woman takes her top off in the gallery of the House protesting tax vote,” she wrote.

“Woman protesting tax cut bill takes her top off (still wearing bra),” tweeted Jonathan Allen, national political reporter with NBC news.

There were other shenanigans, as well.

From The Hill:

Chants of “kill the bill, don’t kill us” filled the chamber as lawmakers spoke on the floor.

One protestor interrupted a floor speech from Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), shouting “you’re lying, you’re lying” as he spoke.

A woman in a wheelchair was also escorted out as she shouted about how she relies on Medicaid and said “you starve America with this bill.”

“You should go back to school to learn how do to math!” a protester shouted as Ryan spoke, according to reports.

The Guardian’s Ben Jacobs tweeted: “I heard two distinct shouts of ‘throw her ass out’ from the floor from the GOP side of the chamber. Couldn’t tell from whom.”

Colin Wilhelm added: “Handful of protesters standing up in House gallery. ‘You’re fired!’ and ‘We’re coming for your jobs!’ as they’re led away by Capitol police.”

Despite the protests, House Republicans voted 227-203 to pass a $1.5 trillion tax cut package and send it to the Senate for a final vote, NPR reports.

Capitol Police told the news site officers have arrested hundreds of folks in recent weeks as lawmakers drafted the legislation, which represents a key campaign promise from President Trump.

“In the last few weeks, more than 200 activists have been arrested by Capitol Police alone. Most are removed by Capitol Police for refusing to move from public spaces, according to the agency,” NPR reports.

“A video posted on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website Monday evening shows more than a dozen activists chanting at the Capitol building, hands bound behind their backs, surrounded by police officials. Two weeks ago, a dozen graduate students from six states were arrested for protesting outside the Capitol Hill office of House Speaker Paul Ryan.”

Asy Pikovsky, with the progressive Center for Public Democracy, said the group will continue to encourage its members to target Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake, as well as Maine’s Sen. Susan Collins, in hopes of killing the tax cuts.

“We expect more arrests,” she told NPR, adding that they’ll “likely be harder arrests meaning that they won’t just be carted off. They’ll probably spend the night in jail.”
