A federal jury in Newport News, Virginia found Lopez, 52, guilty of aggravated sexual assault and making a false statement to a federal agent on Friday after a three day trial, the Virginian-Pilot reports.

Lopez faces up to life in prison when he’s sentenced in U.S. District Court May 19.

The victim, who suffers from PTSD from a prior rape in the military and two traumatic brain injuries, came to the hospital’s emergency room for a leg injury in September 2014. Lopez, a nurse, administered morphine against the victim’s wishes before sexually assaulting her several times, News Channel 3 reports.

Lopez lied about the encounter when questioned by federal agents five days later, and was indicted on charges in July.

Court records show the victim’s previous sexual assault occurred in Wichita, Texas in 2000. The victim initially misrepresented her attacker and the location of that incident, though police ultimately determined she was truthful about being raped, the Virginian-Pilot reports.

Prosecutors said Lopez’s attorney highlighted the victim’s discrepancies during the trail.

The case was investigated by the VA Office of Inspector General, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric M. Hurt and the Justice Department’s Jeremy Jehangiri, according to the Daily Press.

Most folks online seem to think Lopez deserves to rot in prison for the rest of his life.

“This is the quality of care our nation’s veterans are receiving!” Shawn Costello posted to the WAVY TV 10 Facebook page. “It’s absolutely disgusting and our veterans deserve better. This ‘nurse’ should rot in a cell for this.”

“Let’s see, they let patients die while awaiting treatment and then fudge the numbers…now they are doping up patients being treated for PTSD and sexually assaulting them?” Joe Stratton wrote. “I thought I had it bad dealing with the CMVE Staff who represent the VA at local colleges being incompetent and negligent. The VA don’t care about vets.”

“And he should go to prison for life. He took advantage of the trust the state and licensing board put in him!” Kimberly Jordan commented. “He drugged her and raped her multiple times. POS!”

“If there wasn’t enough to worry about going to the VA,” Jamee Martin added.
