Hockey goalies fighting is a rare sight. Rarer still is to see them embrace after duking it out.

But that’s exactly what happened when Jordan Piccolino of the Pembroke Lumber Kings and Guillaume Therien of the Carleton Place Canadians met at center ice while their teammates pushed and shoved during the third period of a game this week.

“About 10 punches were landed in the roughly 20-second tussle precipitated by an after-the-whistle shot that found its way into the Canadians’ net,” Sun News reports.

The video shows after the goalies’ punches slowed and the referee intervened. They began to separate but came together again – to hug.

Each goalie received 27 minutes in penalties after the altercation: two for leaving the crease, five for fighting, 10 for playing without a helmet, and another 10 for being ejected from of the game.

All told, the teams received a combined 110 penalty minutes – Pembroke was assessed 66 penalty minutes while Carleton Place received 64.
