Maxine Waters has apparently caught whatever Hillary Clinton had throughout the campaign.

During an appearance before the Los Angeles Press Club on Friday, the 78-year-old Waters experienced a coughing fit, which she blamed on a bout of laryngitis.

As Waters attempted to overcome the coughing, NBC4 reporter Beverly White filled with awkward time with a number of lines intended to trigger applause for the politician.

Waters was doing her usual shtick of ripping on Donald Trump when she had to pause for a drink of water.

Instead of taking her own glass, she reached for White’s.

“Gotta get some water here,” she said.

After taking a big gulp, she began to cough, then took more water.

“Keep talking,” Waters said to White, waving her microphone.

“That’s alright,” White said, “That was a multi-layer question and I appreciate you, despite your laryngitis, which sounds like it’s clearing up,” sarcastically as Waters continued to cough.

“…to tackle Syria, Afghanistan and North Korea in one response. The congresswoman’s staff was kind enough to find some tea for her so as she partakes, I just want to remind the room that it is an exceptional response on your part to be here at an event hosted by the LA Press Club, aka the enemy of the people,” White said, apparently referring to Trump’s past criticisms of the “fake news” media.

“You didn’t have to say yes,” White continued, “but the organization I know is certainly pleased that you did,” as Waters could be heard continuing to cough.

“So gather your voice ma’am, and we’ll pick up on your comments regarding the Chinese leadership and the recent meeting at Mar-a-Lago with President Trump.”

“I think we’re about ready to start again,” Waters said, in a mix of a croak and a whisper.

But it was short lived as she began coughing again.

“That’s alright, ma’am, take your time. We know you have been doing a lot of talking on behalf of the 45th district of southern California,” White said, triggering thunderous applause.

White further complimented Waters — and filled more time — by noting the venue had to change because of the “tremendous” response.

Waters then began talking again.
