Politicians are known to throw big tips at food service employees, especially when the cameras are around.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel apparently isn’t one of those politicians.

A man who goes by the name of “GQ” says the mayor stopped in the convenience store where he works recently to buy a drink, as he’s done several times.

“He’s real cheap,” GQ says of Emanuel, according to In These Times, a far-left publication. “My friend who made the drink—[Emanuel] only tipped him like a quarter or 50 cents” on a $7 beverage.

When contacted this week, the store employee confirmed the mayor gave him a $.37 tip.

And GQ wasn’t thrilled when a co-worker suggested he pose for a photo with the mayor, as evidenced by the lack of expression on his face.

The Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel came by my job, still can’t stand this muthafucka tho

“He was smilin’ and cheesin’ and stuff,” GQ says. “I’m like, dude, come on: you’re only doing that because you’re trying to get elected. You’re trying to make it look like you’re a man of the people. But you’re not.”

“Can’t stand this muthaf*cka,” he adds on the photo.

The man doesn’t think Emanuel caters to people like him, who lives in the city’s Back of the Yards neighborhood.

“He only caters to people on the North Side, like the Gold Coast,” GQ says, referring to one of the city’s wealthiest neighborhoods. “The only time I see him on the South Side is when it comes time for elections.”

Emanuel is locked in a tight contest for re-election, with recent polls suggesting it’s “dead even.”

Election Day is April 7.
