A loud and angry group of Black Lives Matter protesters forced the Lawrence School Board in Kansas to shut down its meeting early on Monday by screaming and cursing at board members about an allegedly racist teacher.

The disruption started when a woman approached the board to set her own agenda for the meeting, telling board members “ya’ll ain’t gone give me no blank stares tonight cause I’m pissed the hell off for my kids and all the rest of the kids, and ya’ll gone answer some questions tonight,” according to a video posted by The Lawrence Journal-World.

Several other protesters who claimed to be members of Black Lives Matter-LFK stood among the crowd as the woman berated the board.

“If any of ya’ll here for a certain reason, you gots to go, cause we gone talk tonight, we gone get resolutions tonight, and that’s why we’re here,” the woman lectured the room.

“We are here, we gone demand respect, and you gone respect us!” she screamed at board members, just feet from the podium.

“You ain’t got no choice, because I’m mad,” the woman continued before citing news coverage about a South Middle School teacher who was accused of making racist comments in class.

The woman called the teacher out by name, and demanded to expose his alleged misdeeds.

The Kansas City Star reports:

The group accused the school district of protecting a South Middle School teacher who had recently resigned. Under a settlement deal, the district agreed to withhold the results of its investigation in exchange for a promise from the teacher that the district wouldn’t be sued. The Associated Press reported that the teacher has denied the allegations.

“We want to know what’s in our kids’ file,” the woman yelled at board members as someone apparently suggested police intervention.

Another protester interjected.

“Why would you think you need to call the authorities?” she said. “You said you have the authority to call them, why the f**k would you say that? You want to call the police on us? That what ya’ll gone do?”

The first woman then flew into a profanity laced tirade. Moments later, a white woman attempted to read from a script as other protesters recorded with their phones.

“Can we please do this during the comments?” a board member asked dryly.

“No!” the initial instigator shouted. “We running this meeting right now. … Do not interrupt her no more!”

The white woman speaker moved to the podium and continued.

“So, the man you are going to continue to pay until May has been known to say that white people own black people,” she said. “Also, the man who will receive full benefits including the continuation of his existing insurance coverage through the end of his current contract has also said white people are genetically superior.

“There will be no reference to this investigation in his personnel file. What the f**k?” she said.

Other parents also went off on the board before board members ended the meeting about 19 minutes into the ordeal. A majority of board members left the room, while three remained to talk further with the protesters. Police were also called to the scene, according to 41 Action News.

“People were angry and frustrated, and people were expressing a great deal of pain,” said board member Vanessa Sanburn, who stayed behind. “I disagreed with the board motion to adjourn the meeting.  I feel as though, as an elected official, it is my role to listen and hear what they have to say.”

The group wants all board members to resign, the superintendent fired, and a fresh investigation into the allegedly racist teacher.

According to the resignation summary provided to 41 Action News, teacher Chris Cobb will receive full pay and benefits through his current contract, no reference to the investigation in his file, and a promise human resources will tell future employers only that Cobb “voluntarily resigned” from the district.

The agreement stipulated how the school board must approve the settlement with no discussion about the case, and essentially placed a gag order on board members from talking about the teacher’s troubles.

“Thereafter, only the following statement will be made by the Board and/or anyone speaking on behalf of the District: ‘The employee has resigned effective at the end of the term of his contract. He will remain on administrative leave until that time,’” the resignation summary read.
