A host who works for a network that has built its recent success on anonymous leaks critical of the Donald Trump administration is now condemning the notion of acting anonymously online.

After CNN investigated and exposed a Reddit user for creating a meme showing President Trump body-slamming a wrestler with the CNN logo superimposed over his face, CNN hosts and panelists rushed to buttress the stunning attack.

Morning host Chris Cuomo was one of the most vocal:

“Is being faceless getting old?” he huffed to Twitter user @randyjmil.

“Own your words with an identity,” adding Miller is a “faceless hater.”

But Cuomo’s network has no problem regularly using “faceless” sources that fit CNN’s editorial objectives.

Another host, Kate Bolduan was irate when a guest questioned the use of anonymous sources. Big League Politics reports:

A CNN host had an absolute meltdown live on air after it was suggested that reports about President Donald Trump urging former FBI Director James Comey to stop investigating General Mike Flynn may have came from questionable sources.

On Tuesday, the New York Times published a second hand report about a memo where Comey noted that President Trump allegedly urged him to drop the investigation into Flynn. The former FBI director never complained about the conversation to the Justice Department or Attorney General.

The report is based solely on “two people who read the memo,” both of whom are unnamed. The author, Michael Schmidt, admits that he has not seen the document for himself — yet has reported the secondhand sources as fact without actually seeing the memo for himself to verify the claims.

The White House and National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster have denied the allegations.

After former Navy SEAL Carl Higbie suggested that McMaster may be more credible than anonymous sources during an appearance on CNN, host Kate Bolduan began pointing her finger in his face while screaming in near hysterics.

“Two former officials knowledgeable of the situation confirmed to CNN the main points of the story — two former officials? Tell you what, come out and name those people and then we will have something to talk about,” Higbie began.

Bolduan, clearly upset, interrupted Higbie saying, “one, we protect sources — two it’s not just CNN — it’s Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, CNN, ABC, NBC –”

“Who, yeah, but who are the sources?” Higbie interjected. “They’re hiding behind this anonymity.”

Now visibly enraged, Bolduan began shouting, “oh please! PUH-LEASE do not even start with me that you are going to attack sources!”

Higbie asked her if her outrage means she is saying McMaster is lying, and another member of the panel came in for the save and stated that he “didn’t answer the question.”

“You cannot attack, do not attack, the stellar reporters of CNN,” the now completely unhinged Bolduan screamed.

It’s not clear how Cuomo can mesh using anonymous sources to provide damning information about the president, but is critical of private citizens creating political commentary behind nondescript names.
