Where is Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg?

The 85-year-old Justice, who has missed oral arguments due to poor health, canceled an appearance tonight at the Skirball Cultural Center, according to the organization’s website.

“CANCELED: An Evening With Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg,” reads the Skirball site.

“Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg regrets that she is unable to visit the Skirball on January 29. The Justice is curtailing travel and focusing on her work while recuperating from recent surgery,” the Los Angeles-based organization says.

Curiously, President Trump’s State of the Union address was originally scheduled for tonight, as well — an event commonly attended by Justices.

It’s not clear if Ginsburg would have skipped the address if it had still been held this evening and her health was better.

Speculation has swirled around Ginsburg’s whereabouts since she has missed oral arguments at the Court.

The Hill reported on January 9th:

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was absent from the bench for a third straight day on Wednesday.

Chief Justice John Roberts said Ginsburg was unable to be present for arguments but would participate in deciding Wednesday’s case via briefs and transcripts of oral arguments.

The 85-year-old justice is working from home after undergoing surgery on Dec. 21 to remove two cancerous nodules from her left lung. Roberts did not say whether Ginsburg would be back on the bench next week.

Her absence Monday marked the first time in more than 25 years on the court that she missed an oral argument due to her health.

The week prior to her absence, Ginsburg told an audience her health was “fine.”
