House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was attempting to do damage control during her remarks to AIPAC today after members of her Democrat caucus — notably Rep. Ilhan Omar — have been accused of anti-Semitism.
She just often times had trouble getting the words out during the 18-minute remarks.
Pelosi began her brief written remarks by accidentally asking the audience if it was a privilege for her to be there.
“On behalf of the U.S. House of Representatives, is it a privilege for me to join to many friends to celebrate the unbreakable and unshakable bonds between the United States and Israel,” she said, her jaw moving strangely.
“I want to especially acknowledge the delegation from my home state of California,” Pelosi said, before pointing at the and slurring, “right here…” adding a laugh.
“Personally, I take gride— great pride,” she said moments later.
Touting her pro-Israel credentials, she attempted to use her father’s record as proof it runs in her blood.
“First, he didn’t think the administration was doing enough” for European Jews, she said of Franklin Roosevelt as she marred “administration.”
“And wasn’t the Genesis presentation so beautifully— beautiful that we just heard,” she said, triggering applause.
One of the most bizarre moments came as she attempted to talk about Queen Esther and Women’s History Month.
“You know, this March is— March is the month of the women— woman and little did Esther— Queen Esther know way back when that she would be a, a, a, ha, ha, an icon in the March, the month of the woman, Queen Esther,” she said.
After suffering a face spasm, Pelosi said, “We will never allow anyone to make Israel a web— wedge issue.”
Just seconds later, she flubbed again, saying “serial” instead of “Syria.”
“The full House came together to cond-demn myth of dual loyalty and all forms bigotry,” Pelosi struggled to say.
She suffered a brain freeze at one point, and then had another jaw problem as she tried to say “congressional.”
As she concluded — again trying to make the case that Democrats are not anti-Semites — she uttered unintelligible words.
