Socialist Congresswoman Ilhan Omar contends President Trump’s “crippling sanctions to starve the innocent people of Iran” are to blame for the death of terrorist Qasem Soleimani, the Muslim country’s top military leader.

But sanctions against Israel, she argues, “is the kind of pressure that leads to that peaceful process” toward justice.

“Since he got into office, the president of the United States has been goading Iran into war,” Omar alleged in a press conference Wednesday that also featured Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, and other “progressive” House Democrats.

“First, he canceled our best shot at avoiding armed conflict, the Iran Nuclear Deal,” she said. “Then he announced crippling sanctions to starve the innocent people of Iran.”

Omar, who took office with Tlaib last year as the country’s first Muslim congresswomen, also pleaded her case on Twitter.

“This makes no sense. Sanctions are economic warfare. They have already caused medical shortages and countless deaths in Iran,” she complained. “You cannot claim to want de-escalation and then announce new sanctions with no clear goal. This is not a measured response!”

Omar’s sudden aversion to sanctions stands in stark contrast to her comments on the subject in regards to Israel in September, when she reaffirmed her support for the pro-Palestinian BDS movement, which encourages businesses and American citizens to boycott, divest, and sanction companies that benefit Israel.

Israel officials banned Omar and Tlaib from visiting the country because of their efforts to cripple the country’s economy, a move the two used as a publicity stunt to dial up their rhetoric against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, The Washington Times reports.

“I think what is really important is for people to understand that you have to give people the opportunity to seek the kind of justice they want in a peaceful way,” Omar told CBS’ Face The Nation. “And I think the opportunity to boycott, divest, sanction is the kind of pressure that leads to that peaceful process.”

The double-standard is nothing new for Omar, who has drawn scorn from both sides of the political aisle for repeated anti-Semantic and racist Twitter posts targeting Jews and America’s strongest ally in the Middle East.

She’s claimed on Twitter that U.S. foreign policy and political decisions involving Israel is “all about the Benjamins” and described the September 11 terrorist attack that killed thousands of Americans as “some people did something.”

“Israel has hypnotized the world,” she tweeted in 2012, according to The New York Times. “May Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”

As Omar explained at the Wednesday press conference, her perspective on the strife in the Middle East is informed by her time growing up in war-torn Somalia, where Muslims are raised to blame Jews for all of the world’s problems and to dedicate their lives to eradicating them from the planet.

“Every time I hear about conversations around war, I find myself being stricken with PTSD,” she said. “But I find peace knowing I serve with people who show courage against war.”
