Nature videographers captured an incredible scene off the coast of British Columbia when an Orca “punted” a seal 80 feet into the air.

According to Roll Focus Productions, a group of four whales, known as the T69s, was feeding when the lone male in the group made “the spectacular kill.”

The Chicago Tribune reports:

the group they were filming headed for a large bait ball, which is an area where birds, seals, and sea lions feed on herring fish. In the midst of their feeding frenzy, one of the large males of the group aggressively chased a harbor seal and tail flipped it nearly 80 feet into the air, until coming down for a rough landing on the water. The poor seal was then shared with the rest of the orca family of four.

But not all were impressed by the sight of nature. Some wrung their hands over “animal cruelty.”

According to The Daily Dot:

Here at Daily Dot, we believe in animal rights. So when we found a video of a killer whale slapping a small seal clear out of the ocean, we had mixed feelings: How can we be against violence towards animals when animal-on-animal violence is so prevalent in the animal kingdom?

What’s next? Regulating how wild animals kill and eat their food?
