Many Michiganders may be wishing for a little “global warming” tonight.
It’s unlikely to come anytime soon as weather forecasters predict the lower part of Michigan will break decades-old low temperature records.
“All” locations in the southern half of Lower Michigan will drop to between -12° to -20°, Mlive reports.
The map of predicted low temperatures indicates Detroit could reach -12°. The previous record was -8° set in 1934.
The Grand Rapids area could see temperatures near -20° and will likely break a 49-year-old record.
Many areas will see wind chills in excess of -20°.
Remarkably, some areas of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula will likely see higher temperatures than Lower Michigan.
That being said, it appears the coldest predicted temperature – -30° – will be in the eastern Upper Peninsula near Sault Ste. Marie.
