Chow-hungry bureaucrats may want to avoid the Labor Department cafeteria for a while.

An inspection report reveals the establishment was shut down this month after being cited for “many” city sanitation code violations.

Among the worst:

“Rodent feces were observed along floor perimeter in dry storage room, on glue trap in mop room and on a piece of unused equipment in the unused equipment storage room. Small flies were observed on surfaces (i.e. walls and ceiling) in kitchen rear and warewashing areas,” the Washington Post reports.

Inspectors observed food service employees not washing their hands and “hot and cold food bars were kept at inappropriate temperatures.”

The Post notes First Lady Michelle Obama – a champion of “healthy” school lunches – visited the department in 2010 to read to children in the child care center.

Her book choice? “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss.
