Given the unrest that has flared up with the shooting of two Ferguson police officers outside the department building, the work of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is all the more relevant.
The group produced this video detailing what they found when they first were in the city.
“We were very warmly received in the neighborhood,” John Galvin, a member of the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team, says. “What we found as we started talking to people was what was lacking was a sense of hope. They had looked for answers in the government, in the economy, a lot of different things that let people down.”
James Knowles III, mayor of Ferguson, says, “The Rapid Response Team approached the police department, did approach the fire department, they did approach EMS and tried bring the Gospel to them and talk to them about their lives and what are they going through.”
They have since been dispatched back to the area to help calm the situation.
