Guys: want more sex? Then let her sleep!
A new study from the University of Michigan Sleep and Circadian Research Laboratory finds that women who sleep an hour more per night than their usual amount “reported stronger sexual desire and actually have a sure 14% probability that they would engage sexually again the next day,” according to the Daily Times Gazette.
The university picked 171 females to be surveyed. They completed an online survey that had questions about their sleeping patterns like duration and quality of sleep. It also asked about their level of arousal and if they had any sexual activities from the last 24 hours.
“Our study showed that good sleep is important for healthy sexual desire and arousal in women, even when women are mentally and medically healthy,” according to the paper published by researcher David Kalmbach.
He also finds women who sleep longer have an increase in vaginal lubricant over women who sleep less.
“I think these findings suggest that taking a closer look at sleep health in women with sexual complaints is a worthwhile endeavor … as poor sleep may lead to sexual problems,” Kalmbach says.
But he cautioned that may not be the only problem.
“Getting more sleep should not be expected to magically fix all sexual problems,” he says, according to the New York Times.
“Sexual problems often have multiple contributing factors, including mood, relationship quality, partner availability and, now we know, sleep health. I think it is important for women and health care professionals to be mindful of the relationship between sleep and sexual response.”
The researcher believes earlier studies had made assumptions that sleep may impact hormone levels that can result in changes in arousal and desire.
He adds “more research is required” to find the hidden mechanisms.
