S’mores are now s’lesses.
When the USDA changed the s’more – the marshmallow, chocolate and graham cracker treat many people enjoy around a summer campfire – ridicule quickly followed.
Because the Feds apparently see a burgeoning epidemic of tubby Cub Scouts, those overseeing Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative swapped the chocolate bar for a strawberry and replaced the marshmallow with yogurt. Low-fat, of course.
Kayla Phaneuf decided to to put the new creation to the test.
Her experiment shows what’s whipped up in the bureaucratic labs of Washington, D.C. doesn’t necessarily translate to Anytown, USA.
“I don’t think you’re actually supposed to roast them, but hey, it’s in place of a s-more, so that’s what I’m doing,” Phaneuf says before she conducts her experiment.
“I’ve never roasted a strawberry before, so I don’t really know how I’m supposed to know if it’s roasted or not,” she says as she’s cooking the fruit over a charcoal grill.
After she put the roasted strawberry on the graham cracker and picked it up, the whole thing crumbed because everybody (except USDA bureaucrats) knows strawberries are round while the original ingredient – piece of chocolate – is flat.
Then she tried to roast the yogurt. But everybody (except USDA bureaucrats) knows that yogurt is a liquid and doesn’t stick to a roasting fork very well.
“The best part about roasting yogurt is making sure you cook it all the way through,” she says dryly. “Oh, we lost it!” she exclaims as the dollop drops to the coals.
After assembling that attempt, Phaneuf says sarcastically, “This looks more appetizing than anything I have ever seen in my entire life!
“Low-calorie, low-fat, low-dairy, high in fruit…stuff.”
In the video, she takes a bite and says, “Ummmm…best thing I have every tasted in my life!”
She concludes, “So thank you Obama–Michelle–for ruining yet another wonderful-tasting thing so that you can make people less fat because this is totally, totally making that happen. Obviously.”
She deems the new creations “s’lesses” because you want some less of it and not some more.
